Potential Fixes:

To resolve this issue of the email app, please follow the steps mentioned below.

Force Stop The App:

An email app would refuse to close normally or would leave other background services running. In certain situations, the Android Settings app can be used to close the email app entirely.

On most of the Android devices, forcing an app to close can be done as follows:

  • Open Settings on your mobile device.
  • Select Apps from the drop-down menu.
  • Select See all apps if you want to view all open applications.
  • To force an application to close, tap it.
  • Choose Force Stop from the menu drop-down.
  • Select OK to confirm.
  • Now, check if the “Email app crashing” issue is fixed or not.

For Apple Devices:

The iPhone includes a function for closing applications. With the use of a Home Button at the bottom.

Follow the steps mentioned below to close the app on iPhone:

  • To view the most recently used applications, double-click the Home button.
  • Swipe to the left or right to find the application you wish to close.
  • To close the app, swipe the preview card upwards.
  • Verify whether the “Email app keeps crashing” issue has been resolved.

Update Email App:

It is recommended to update the email app. Maybe the version you’re using is buggy or out of date. Simply Go to the Play Store to update the email app on your mobile device.

  • Ensure that you are connected to the internet, then open the Play Store on your mobile device.
  • To open the side menu, tap the three-line button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  • Click My apps & games and wait a few seconds for the app updates to load.
  • Find Gmail (or any other email app) on the list, and then tap the Update button next to it.
  • Launch Gmail once the update has been installed to determine if it launches successfully.
  • Verify whether the issue is resolved or not.

Sign Out And Then Sign In To Your Account:

Although this approach might look like a shot in the dark, still it appears to work for some users. Signing out of your Android account and then signing back in is required.

Follow these steps to sign out of your Google Account on Android and then sign back in:

  • Open Settings.
  • Select Accounts & sync.
  • Choose Google.
  • Tap the bottom menu and delete the account.
  • Reboot your device, add the account, and check Gmail notifications for improvements.

Disable Dark Theme:

Android’s dark mode for email is a frequent and well-documented cause of this problem. That is, after Android 10 was launched, Google made sure to provide a dark theme for most of its apps for Android. Upon the introduction of the long-awaited dark theme for email, many users reported crashing.

Now, Google removed the dark theme temporarily and returned it after the issue was resolved, but it is uncertain whether this feature is stable on all Android devices. It is currently available exclusively on Android 10 devices.

Therefore, we advise disabling the dark theme and checking for the issue is still occurring or not:

  • Open your Email app.
  • Tap on the menu bar and then open Settings.
  • Choose General settings.
  • Click on Theme and choose Light.
  • Reboot your device and verify issue still occurs or not.

Clear Cache Of The App:

You can try clearing cached data of the App. As with every other Android application, email temporarily stores data to improve performance and reduce resource consumption. But if email is failing on your phone, deleting its cached data can fix it. Follow the steps listed below to begin.

  • Launch the Settings application on your mobile device and tap Apps & Notifications.
  • To see all the apps installed on your phone, tap See all apps.
  • Select your email app from the options which appear.
  • Click Storage & Cache
  • To clear the cache, tap Clear cache.
  • Go back, and tap Force stop on the app info page.

Restart Gmail App to see if it works, if not you can try one of the other solutions listed below.

Check Device Storage:

Are you running out of space on your Android mobile device? There may be problems in running applications properly. We recommend that you have at least 1 GB of free space on your mobile device to ensure that it operates as expected. So, if your email app keeps crashing on your phone, check the storage and do some cleaning up space if required. To view your phone’s storage, go to Settings > Storage.

Tap Internal Storage to see what’s using up your storage space, then clean up by deleting unnecessary files, videos, and apps, etc. Just check that your storage has sufficient free space.

Disable Battery Saver:

Sometimes, battery saver may also interfere with the performance of your apps and other phone features. So, if email began crashing on your phone, try temporarily disabling battery saver. Depending on what model of Android phone you’re using, you may find the Battery saver icon on your quick settings panel; find and disable it. Instead, Click on Settings > Battery > then Disable the battery saver.

Reset Preferences Of App:

One more thing we recommend you take to fix email crashing on your phone is resetting the preferences of the App. When you select “Reset app preferences” on your phone, the app settings are reset to factory defaults. Therefore, if email stops working due to improper settings, resetting app preferences will restore functionality. Let’s dive into it.

  • Open your device’s Settings
  • Select at the bottom of the page
  • Click the Reset options button.
  • Watchfully choose Reset app preferences from the choices.
  • You may review what this does, then tap Reset Apps to confirm the activity.
